NAWBO and the Richmond Chapter

""

The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO)
propels women entrepreneurs into economic, social and
political spheres of power worldwide.

NAWBO is the only dues-based international organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs in all types of businesses. Based in McLean, Virginia, it has more than 8,000 members in nearly 80 chapters in the U.S. and is represented in 35 countries.

In principle and in practice, NAWBO values and seeks a diverse and inclusive membership including full participation in the organization by all women business owners regardless of race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin or disability. NAWBO's goal is to represent fully the diverse make-up of the women business owner community through increased representation within ethnic and minority communities and to expand access to leadership opportunities.

NAWBO's strength comes from the diversity of its membership -- all sizes of businesses, from sole proprietorship to those with hundreds of employees, representing every industry from construction, importers and retailers to service providers, and in all areas of the country. Membership is open to sole proprietors, partners and corporate owners with day-to-day management responsibility.

Richmond NAWBO
Your Opportunity
to Connect with Success!

Since 1982, the Richmond Chapter of NAWBO has provided
vision and a strong voice for women business owners
in Central Virginia.

Winner of the national "Healthy Chapter Award" for five straight years, Richmond NAWBO consists of a dynamic, diverse, and powerful group of women entrepreneurs and corporate partners who encourage and enhance the success of their peers through programs designed to:

  • Create business opportunities,
  • Build strategic alliances,
  • Influence public policy, and
  • Promote leadership within the civic and business community.

The Mission Statement of the Richmond Chapter of NAWBO is to support women business owners in all stages of their business life.

Locally, NAWBO empowers its members in the following ways:

* With Powerful People. Members forge connections with a dynamic array of award-winning women business owners to increase business opportunities, share ideas and experiences and energize and inspire each other. You will develop influential relationships with major corporate, political and community leaders and gain access to certification and procurement opportunities.

* With Powerful Programs. Members enhance personal and professional development through informative programs, Executive Dialogue groups, committee activities and other business resources. Our signature event –- the NAWBO/Verizon Enterprising Women of Excellence Awards banquet and the NAWBO Women’s Business Expo -- offer unparalleled opportunities for visibility, networking and business development. There are also money-saving affinity programs from our corporate sponsors/partners.

* With Powerful Advocacy. The Richmond chapter of NAWBO is the most influential women’s business advocacy group in Virginia. Several members serve on gubernatorial boards and commissions and frequently testify on important legislation. Two chapter presidents have been honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration as Virginia’s Women in Business Advocate of the Year.

* With Powerful Knowledge. Knowledge is power, and NAWBO keeps its members informed on key issues that affect business and how business owners can participate in public policy decision-making. Practicing the power of numbers as well, NAWBO has strategic alliances with several other organizations, including the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Longwood University College of Business and Economics.
